Beta version of a new song
Blowup Radio's bi-weekly challenge for songwriters to write a and record a song in 2 weeks from a song prompt provided. www.BlowUpRadio.com The prompt for this week was to write a song about "Pride". Ended up with "Folly and Pride". I recorded the vocals in an imitation of Elliot Smith's style. 2 separate vocal takes panned hard. This is probably not the finished version of the song. Pretty sure there is room for a full band backing here. What's the song about? I think the lyrics tell the story well.
Lyrics
In a palace of stone
Bleached white like bone
From unrelenting beating of the sun
Old timbers groan
With the weight of all things he should have done
He filled the halls
With art and gold
Hauled it inside
Hauled it inside
And in this tomb
He built his throne
On folly and pride
Folly and pride
Folly and pride
Tattered and torn
Each banner sworn
To a long forgotten kingdom lost and won
How time has worn
All the colors, once so brave. But Now they run
He filled the halls
With art and gold
Hauled it inside
Hauled it inside
And in this tomb
He built his throne
On folly and pride
Folly and pride
Folly and pride
We fill our hearts
Until we’re whole
Then hold it inside
Hold it inside
We fill our hearts
Until they’re full
With folly and pride
With folly and pride
Folly and pride
